And just like every year a ton of new series get introduced. Now if they would actually keep more of those series, they would have to introduce less new series. But that is a discussion for another day.
So far I have checked out: Blindspot, Limitless, Minority Report, The Player, Quantico, Heroes Reborn and a bit out of the genre Blood & Oil.
I'll start with the last one Blood & Oil. Much I cannot say about this. I watched the first episode, but there was not a single element that pulled me in. The series was loud, and busy, but not much interesting story at all. Normally I give series 3 episodes before I decide to write it off. But this one totally didn't take. I checked it out because it was promoted by the serie Mistresses on their facebookpage. Sadly enough it doesn't come by far in the same league.

So lets move on to Blindspot. My fiancé was really looking forward to this series and we watched the first 2 episodes last weekend. It had a bit of slow start. The first episode wasn't bad, but it wasn't super either. But in any case better than Blood & Oil ;) The series starts off with a woman who crawls out of a bag, naked, and is fully covered in tattoos. On her back she has the name of an FBI officer and the word FBI. And she has no memory of who she is, or where she comes from. When brought in by the FBI they scan her tattoos and bit by bit through the episodes they'll discover that the tattoos are all pointed towards crimes. And are like this able to prevent crime. Quite soon though they already starting to figure out who she is. And in my opinion, 2 episodes is fast, really fast. These days, I get the feeling that series often are written with the idea that they won't last longer than one season, so they want to be prepared for that and start unraveling the mystery to early.
And on one hand, I can't really blame the writers. Last few years, a lot of good series get thrown in the garbage, simply because they don't get the ratings. But that ratingsystem is totally broken. But I'm going to try to keep that conversation for my next blog :p
Let's keep it at, it had a slow start, but the series has potential and I am looking forward to see more. If this is a series that will run for multiple seasons, we'll have to see. If the ratings keep like they are now. This series will keep on going. I'll keep you posted if it changes :)

Minority Report. Yesterday I watched the first three episodes of Minority Report and something happened that hasn't happened since Sanctuary. It Pulled me in from the very first second. Just like Blindspot and The player (which I'll discuss further down) this series is about preventing crime instead of solving the crime after it happens. Unlike other series, they get there information from a precog, a person who can see the future, more specifically sees murders happening before they actually happen.
This series is based on the movie Minority Report and is falls 10 years later in the timeline. which is about 50 years from now. You don't need to have seen the movie in order to watch the series, but for those who have seen the movie and are wondering if the series is as dark as the movie. I can say to you "No!" After I watched the episodes I got so intrigued that I decided to check out the movie. I have to admit that until now, I actually had never heard of the movie. The movie is a thriller and is very dark, while the series has the normal detective series vibe, more like Castle than Criminal Minds. I don't want to spoil to much of the series, but a fun detail, in episode one, Fox made for this series a special episode of The Simpsons, Season 75.
I would say if you are a fan of crime series, you definitely have to watch this series. It is really good.
Sadly enough the ratings in America aren't that good and it has been slipping 3 weeks in a row. Like this you can see how objective watching series is.
This is a definitely must see!

I'm going to jump now to The Player. Like I said before this is series about crime that hasn't happened yet. But with a bit of a morbid twist. When my fiancé and I first started watching this series we both had the feeling that this was the Las Vegas version of Person of Interest. On first sight they tell you that they have a system that predicts crimes and they needed someone to stop it from happening. But then you watch further and you come to the conclusion that this is nothing like Person of Interest. While the jest of PoI is to save peoples lives, the lives that the government finds irrelevant, In The Player they just don't care if your life is saved or not. It's all about gambling, like everything else in Las Vegas. People have money so they gamble.
The fact that this series has a big name like Wesley Snipes, makes it an instant hit for people wanting it the check it out. I personally like this series. But not because of him, and while he's is prominently featured in all pictures, he is actually not the main character of the series.
If you like detective series and can handle the fact that they play with lives, you should definitely check out this series!

What's next? Ah yeah, let's talk about Quantico. Over the years we've seen a lot of FBI/CIA series passing by. But now we go to FBI School, Quantico. The series can be very confusing in the beginning if you don't catch it that they keep jumping forward and back to present time. Basically they are using the same technique of storytelling like in How To Get Away With Murder. Or from what I have seen so far, that is what I expect. In HTGAWM they keep showing pieces of a future event and then in the on of the last episodes, putting all the pieces together and then go further from there. I expect that this will be the same here. This can be confusing in the beginning, what means this is a series you have to keep your head in the game.
There are quite a bit of familiar faces, or at least for me, in the series. Right of the bat I recognized Josh Hopkins from Cougar Town, Jake McLaughlin from Believe, Graham Rogers from Revolution, Rick Cosnett from The Flash and The Vampire Diaries and Mark Pellegrino known from numerous series, like Supernatural and Lost.
Does knowing that so many known actors play in this series make it more appealing for you to watch it? I would like to know, please leave your opinion down below in the comments :)This is definitely a series I will keep following. I am a big fan of FBI/CIA series. They always have a bit of a different vibe than police detective series.

Longest blog entry ever. But the meaning of this is that I shortly described all new fall series that I have been in contact with so far. Without spoilers. Later I might come back on the series in more detail. I have Heroes: Reborn and Limitless left to discuss.
Lets start with Limitless. Just like Minority Report, Limitless is based on a movie carrying the same name, in this case Limitless.
At first I thought that they started all over again and that the first episode was a reenactment of the movie, because just like in the movie there was the friend that gave the drug, and there was as well the killing of that friend. But there ends the similarity. So I get the feeling that this series is a few years later on the timeline. Or maybe I am wrong and they did decide to restart the story and rewrite it. In any case you don't have to have seen the movie in order to understand the series.
In case you haven't seen the movie, you'll follow a guy that is a waste of space. He hasn't done anything remarkable with his life and is leeching of his parents. But then, in a temp job, he meets up with an old friend and he has a gift for him. ZNT. A drug that opens your mind. while normally you only use like 20% of your brain capacity this drug makes you use 100% and that for 12 hours long. There is only one small side effect. After using it for a few times you die. In the series you'll see that the main character finds a way around this. Not going to spoil, you'll have to watch it yourself.
The FBI wants to know why he doesn't die and gives him a job so they can keep an eye on him. His handler is no one less than Jennifer Carpenter aka Debra Morgan from Dexter.
Its a very fun comedy detective series a la The Mentalist.

And then last in the list, but therefor not least Heroes: Reborn.
First of all, yes, in my personal opinion, you should watch Heroes first. Even though they introduced all new characters, except for Noah Bennet (Jack Coleman) They do constantly point with names and pictures to the first series. If you not have seen this, you will not notice the significance of these and you'll miss out on story. For the rest it's fairly the same as the the first series. On the timeline, this is 10 years later and shows that people now know about the people with powers. They get referred to as Evo's. Instead of being hunted down by the company like in the first series, this time they are getting hunted openly by the government.
While s01 -03 of Heroes was great, and they failed big time with s04, it seems that they are trying to bring back the old glory. Personally I am not convinced. It's not bad. But it's not good enough to keep my attention to it for 40 min.
So if you were a fan of Heroes. Check it out. Let me know below in the comments what you think of this new series.

Plenty of new series to follow indeed some of which definitely come above others :)
ReplyDeleteBlood and oil was indeed very hard to get into and I lost interest from the very beginning, its a very typical Amercian only series I guess
